Body Type Calculator

Define your unique silhouette. Analyze your proportions to identify your body shape category and understand the biological distribution of your measurements.

Measurement Input

For the most accurate results, measure at the fullest part of your bust and hips, and the narrowest part of your waist.

Decoding the Human Silhouette

Body shape is determined by the biological distribution of skeletal structure and adipose tissue. Understanding your type is key to personalized health and style.

Beyond the Measurements

While weight and BMI provide a general sense of health, your body type reveals the specific geometry of your frame. This is primarily influenced by genetics, hormones, and bone structure—factors that remain relatively constant even with weight fluctuations.

Our calculator uses standard industrial algorithms to categorize your silhouette based on the ratios between your bust, waist, and hips. This data is essential for understanding how your body stores energy and how clothing will drape over your frame.

The Four Core Types:

  • Hourglass: Balanced bust/hips with narrow waist.
  • Triangle (Pear): Wider hips relative to bust.
  • Inverted Triangle: Broader shoulders/bust than hips.
  • Rectangle: Straight silhouette with minimal waist definition.
  • Oval (Apple): Weight concentrated in the midsection.

Biological & Hormonal Influences

The way your body distributes fat is often a reflection of your hormonal profile. For example, the "Hourglass" and "Pear" shapes are typically associated with higher levels of estrogen, which promotes fat storage in the lower body.

Estrogen

Promotes fat storage in the hips and thighs (Gynoid fat), often resulting in a pear or hourglass silhouette.

Androgens

Directs fat toward the abdominal region (Android fat), characteristic of the apple or inverted triangle shape.

Cortisol

High chronic stress can lead to increased visceral fat in the midsection, potentially shifting one's type toward an oval shape.

Shaping Your Health Strategy

Health Indicators

Wait-to-Hip ratio is a significant indicator of cardiovascular health. Ratios over 0.85 (women) or 0.90 (men) suggest higher risks.

Training Focus

Rectangles may focus on oblique and shoulder training to create more curve, while Inverted Triangles may focus on lower body volume.

Acceptance & Design

Understanding your bone structure allows you to work *with* your body rather than against it when setting fitness goals.

Visceral vs Subcutaneous

Fat stored deep in the abdomen (Apple) is more metabolically active and risky than fat stored on hips and thighs (Pear).

Precision & Nuance

Our algorithm provides a mathematical classification based on standard ratios. However, body shape is a spectrum. You may find yourself between two categories, or your type may shift slightly as you gain muscle or lose fat.

Always prioritize feeling strong and healthy in your own skin over adhering to a specific category.
