Understanding Time Math
Unlike standard decimal mathematics which operates in base-10, time operates in base-60 (sexagesimal system). This makes manual addition and subtraction of hours, minutes, and seconds tedious and prone to errors.
Base-60 Explained
When adding times, if the minutes exceed 59, they roll over into the hours column (e.g., 40 minutes + 30 minutes = 1 hour and 10 minutes, not 70 minutes). A time calculator handles this carry-over logic automatically.
