Current Grade

How Are Grades Calculated?

Most modern classes use a Weighted Grade System rather than a simple point system. In a weighted system, some assignments (like final exams or major projects) count more towards your final grade than others (like daily homework), regardless of the raw points they are worth.

The Weighted Grade Formula

To calculate your current weighted grade, multiply each assignment's grade by its weight, and add them all together:

Final Grade = (Grade1 × Weight1) + (Grade2 × Weight2) + ...

If your entered weights do not add up to 100%, our calculator automatically scales your grade. This is useful for finding your "Current Grade" when the semester isn't over and the final exam (which takes up the rest of the 100%) hasn't been taken yet.

Final Exam Formula

Want to know what you need on the final? The formula to find the required final exam score is:

Final = [Target - Current × (1 - FinalWeight)] / FinalWeight

* Note: All weights must be converted to decimals (e.g., 20% = 0.20) when using this mathematical formula manually. Our calculator does this for you automatically.
