How the calculation works
A word count splits text on whitespace. A character count can include or exclude spaces.
Reading time in this example uses 200 words per minute.
Worked example: “one two two three”
- Words = 4.
- Characters with spaces = 16.
- Characters without spaces = 13.
- Reading time at 200 wpm = 4 ÷ 200 minutes = 1.2 seconds.
